Greetings, welcome to my newsletter!
My name is Catie Burrill, I am a Chicago-based fiber artist and sculptor whose work celebrates divergent minds through found materials and old-world craft techniques. Inspired by my years traveling across the U.S., my art explores outsider narratives, mad identity, domestic arts, and storytelling through stitchwork.
Please join me on my next journey investigating archetypes of mad people in the Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern periods at the Newberry Library. Sifting through folkloric poems, plays, and tales, I will alchemize my findings into a series of soft sculptures.

A note on my work: Using salvaged materials, my distinct craft combines numerous fiber art techniques, from crazy quilting and DIY couture, to soft sculptures and puppet making. Stitched using classical furrier and sewing methods, I relentlessly explore the line between rags and riches. You can learn more about my work on my website and my Instagram.
